11th June 1887 - Man in Barrow

On 11th June 1887 a correspondent reported by telegraph that a shocking incident had taken place in Blaenaufestiniog, where considerable sensation was caused by the extraordinary conduct of a madman in the streets. The poor man had become insane, and it had become necessary to remove him to the asylum. Although there were plenty of conveyances close at hand, the poor man, bound hand and foot, was carried through the streets in a dirty wheelbarrow. His cries were piteous, and, from the position he was in, he must have suffered much bodily pain. He was thus conveyed to the railway station, and subsequently removed to the asylum. This report was in the Cardiff Times - Saturday 11 June  1887 With thanks to the National Library of Wales. All rights reserved.
