9th June 2014 - BBC says cost of autism is £32bn per year

On the 9th June 2014 a BBC report said that autism spectrum disorders cost £32bn per year in the UK. That involves treatment, lost earnings, and care and support. Christine Swabey of the autism research charity, Autistica, said "right now we spend just £180 on research for every £1m we spend on care." Compared with a lot of illnesses and conditions she said there is a big imbalance and so is looking for more investment in making life better for those on the spectrum.
